Now a hurricane. Also MICE and comics.

Quick update -- the power went off in my neighborhood for a day or so, and a great deal of tree bits and some trees have fallen onto the road. But now the weather is sunny and beautiful, as if nothing happened.

Saturday Sept 24! I will be at Porter Square selling comics at MICE.

I will also have art in the comics art gallery at Lesley.

Also something possibly comics-related happening Friday Sept 23 at MIT, more details to follow.

Whoa! Earthquake!

Just felt a small earthquake. I thought the chair moving was my imagination, then I thought there was a heavy cart rolling through the building, then I thought someone was trying to get into the neighboring office door by banging on it.

But stepping out into the hallway, there was no one there.

I realized the door nearby was rattling on its own accord -- because -- as I held on to the doorjamb and felt the floors and wall sway -- the whole building was shaking.

By then, other people were trickling out in to hallway, asking if they were feeling the shaking as well. A few more moments, and it stopped, and little groups began to form to talk about what happened, and quite a few people were forming groups outside and calling others on cellphones. Despite one person's ideas that something blew up in the basement, it was soon confirmed to be an earthquake.

Giant protein structures riding on horses

Above: part of a cover I made for the Trends in Cell Biology September issue.

Those are alpha helices and beta sheet proteins (sort of) riding horses.

The September issue may be appearing at Exciting Biologies, a scientific conference in Japan this fall, hosted by Cell Press and RIKEN. More news as I find out!
