New book! "Running Through Dreams"

New book! You can order copies through Amazon.com and CreateSpace.
* Book is not available through Kindle yet, but I have plans to publish it there in the future.

I am directly selling copies of Running Through Dreams during my upcoming visit to Boston, Atlanta and San Francisco. I am also planning to be at the Maine Comics Arts Festival (MECAF) on Sunday May 19th 2013.

The book collects several of my past comics and two new short comics. The book is 8.25"x6" color paperback, 118 pages. See below for more samples and links.

Summary and quotes on back cover:

Explore fantastical worlds and encounter bored angels, mysterious perfume merchants, desperate dentists and curious wolves in this collection of offbeat and dreamlike stories.

“Rothwell’s vivid watercolors give this [comic] a unique look, and I enjoyed her quirky wolf characters.” -- Rick Silva, Comic a Day

“Fantasy, but not quite. Spiritual, like I’m reading… a mythical story from folk[tales].” -- Tales from the Parents Basement Podcast review

"Cat + Sketchbook" and visit to Kyoto Manga museum

Translation of bottom caption: The Sparrow princess and friends stole the sketchbook as a prank. The cat and some crows are chasing after them.

I visited the Kyoto Manga Museum recently. There was an activity called Sketchtravel Workshop where participants each drew a picture involving a cat character looking for its sketchbook, and above is what I drew. This may end up in a book collecting the drawings... or something.

The participants at the table. I like their expressions.

Sign: Are Manga Artists Millionaires?
(Short answer from left of board: initial serialization in weekly/monthly magazines brings in little money for the artist. Printing of tankobon (books) and animation/merchandise does start to bring in money.)

More clouds and an update

Photo of some clouds near the ocean.

It is starting to get chilly here, although not as cold as Boston. Insulation etc is not as well put together, though, so I feel like the cold is felt more then Boston.

Work is busy busy busy. I am learning about US history to make presentations, and keep having flashbacks to highschool history classes. I am also giving watercolor classes, and getting up to date on my art history. Ditto with winter holidays. I am not sure how other people do things in my same job position, but for now I can say, become a JET CIR (with focus on events and presentations) and you will be a full time ambassador, anthropologist and researcher.

Have not been to comics shows (still not sure if indie comics and comics arts festival culture exists in Japan like I saw in Boston etc.), but I do occasionally show my printed comics to people. Most of the time they can't immediately read the English text, though....

Fields

Cycling through the fields.

I am settling in. It is very rainy here with hurricane season, but it means there are amazing clouds.
