New Tumblr blog and story about Rhinoceros beetles

I have a Tumblr blog now: http://akadori-studios.tumblr.com/
So far I have posted comics and pictures of birds.
The bird photos are from a bird banding job I had in Cape Cod this spring.... I am embarking on a career change of working with wildlife! Currently I am working in the mountains.

Here is an excerpt from a newsletter I wrote in Japan, about the time I raised sixty Rhinoceros beetle larvae. For a while. Then I gave the larvae to people as presents. Click on the page for more....

Kabuto and Vegemite

I wonder if Kabuto beetles would eat Vegemite.

Anyway, Martin Dolan has written a review of Outbound, and my Time-travel Vegemite story was mentioned. (Read the Vegemite story online here.)

(Mister Martin Dolan mentioned he enjoys eating Vegemite. I am hoping I didn't offend him.)

And now for some beetles!

Here's one walking.

Here's the beetle falling, by accident.

Don't worry, I caught it. We later returned the beetle back to some earth and bark.

BioBlitz and ICCF-14

This weekend, I caught the tail end of the 14th International Conference on Condensed Matter Nuclear Science, visited Pennsylvania, and also went to the Harbor island Bio Blitz. I don't have any photos from the Cold Fusion conference, so I'll just assure you it was an eclectic mix of international researchers with interesting accents.

I do have some photos from the Bio Blitz!

(This round of photos includes camping on Outer Brewster, with photos of Kimmie, Tim, Luke and me. I'll add a photo of our park service ranger Val and other folks in the next round of photos.)

Damselfly

Here is a damselfly that I found hanging around my kitchen, a while ago.

(It's alive, by the way)

On less pleasing news…. This is the state that my apartment has reached, concerning rats.

(Click on the screenshots below, if the Craigslist posting has expired.)

New Website!

Hey! I have a new website!

Also, here’s a guy I saw on the bus.

I feel like I see him on the buses a lot. He’s usually chatting away with the busdrivers. (Incidentally, I got caught up in drawing him, and missed my stop.)

And finally --
A bumblebee I picked up from the ground.
I gave it the core of the pear I was eating.
