Boston Commons

I was feeding sparrows at the Boston Commons last Thursday evening, when I heard a noise like two tires popping in quick succession. For half a minute, no one gave it much notice.

Then a nearby lady, craning her neck towards the edge of the Commons, spoke.

"Hey... did someone just get shot?"

Ducklings, Coon, Noble Hound

Here are some ducklings I saw at Jamaica Pond.







Below is a coon that was hanging around the neighbor’s tree. Not my neighbor, Kate's neighbor.





We think it is a mama coon, from the second photo. (Either it's some weird fur or a baby coon.)

And here -- here is a noble, noble hound. Bask in the nobleness.

I feel like I see him on the buses a lot. He’s usually chatting away with the busdrivers. (Incidentally, I got caught up in drawing him, and missed my stop.)

I gave it the core of the pear I was eating.

Tui, puppets, videos and Supreme Master Television

(What? Actual news, instead of random nature photos of stuff I see?)

SMTV (Supreme Master Television… I’m not making it up) contacted me recently. They wanted to use some of my Tui footage I shot, while in New Zealand. How they found me and my video footage: YouTube.

Also, I took photos and videos as usual for Puppet Showplace Theater’s PuppetSlams. Jill, the technical director/performer, asked to use the footage I got of her Alien Investigator puppet. I think she’s showing the video as part of her graduation thesis presentation. Anyway Jill’s puppet is pretty awesome, especially the funky hands. I’ll link the video here if it gets online. (Jill’s future website is www.postmortempuppets.com.)

As long as I’m mentioning random video stuff: I also edited this short video/slideshow thing a while ago, for Sarah Ip’s “Eight (Indie) Bands to Watch in 2008” article.

This just in -- fuzzy lemons were spotted along the Fens, pecking at something.

I was eating breakfast, and there was a bunch of newspaper ads scattered on the table.
So I fetched a sharpie.

Mike's vs Modern

Let's see if I can update my blog at least once a week.

Well, today I was in the North End, so I bought a few pastries from Mike's Pastries and Modern Pastries. The debate over which pastry shop was better was going to end here. In the blue-and-white string corner, Mike's, with: cream puff, canoli, green cookie thing. In the red-and-white string corner*, Modern, with: canoli, creme brulee, fig-newton-cookie thing.

After sampling a bit of everything as dessert, my conclusion this evening is....

Both are delicious.

A rematch will need to be held, before an official decision can be made.


* Mike's and Modern both use a thin cotton string to tie their boxes, although each store has its own color.
